Its hard to believe that just a few years ago I was an excited young kid who was introduced to the possibility of working for a game company, testing their new video games. Just like you, I love playing video games and can not think of a better job at that age. The bad news is... * You will be in competition with a ton of other wannabe video game testers. And many of them will have professional qualifications. * The pay is not great. When first starting off as a game tester you will be on a fairly low hourly rate. It gets better when you complete more jobs and you gain experience, but it takes time. * The working hours can be extensive and unsociable. * You will not hop from one testing job to another. Quite often you will have to wait a period of time before your next project. * You dont get to see much of the sun when you are working! But here is the good news... * You get paid to play (or rather test), the very latest video games, before they come on to the market and before anyone else sees them. * You WILL be the envy of your friends by having such a cool job. * You work and socialize with people similar to yourself, i.e. people who love playing video games. * Once you start testing, there are other jobs that may become available within the company. Once your foot is in that door, other doors can easily open up for you. * If you do not yet want to join the millions of other guys and girls working tedious 9 to 5 jobs, Monday to Friday then the lifestyle of a video game tester might be the answer. These are a just a few advantages and disadvantages to video game tester jobs and what they entail. It certainly is not a job that will suit everyone.
