Make Your Own Masquerade Mask
Why did people start wearing masquerade masks? There is a simple answer: because people wanted to conceal their true identity. Through the centuries the mask has evolved in many forms while the various parties and balls have changed in style and format. Still, one thing remains with us and that is the masquerade ball mask. When choosing a mask you can make your own; or, you can purchase one that is ready to wear. Before we begin we will need to decide if we want to wear a half, full, head, or stick mask. Next, to understand the mask we need to know what is used to make it. Generally, these can be broken into four groups: the base, paints, tools, and additions. The base can be as simple as a plastic mask which you can find in most any arts and crafts shop. You will want to choose the paints carefully. Make certain you do not select a paint that will dry hard, or crack, or even break. You will need a few tools. One is some type of cutter such as a pocket knife or scissors. You will then finish your mask by adding additions. This is simply the way you will wear or hold your mask. It can be a small stick that you bring to your face or elastic if you choose to wear your mask most of the evening. Of course, if we choose to make our own mask then we will want to customize it to meet our own needs. This is the fun part. You may decide to create an elegant white lace masquerade mask or you may go for something more bold like a gold masquerade mask. You can use a variety of materials including paper mache - this is great for shaping ears, a nose, and so forth. Wire can help to build a strong foundation so your mask does not fall apart. You can add all kinds of materials such as glitter, pieces of material, buttons, or many other things, just use your creativity. You can go to a store and purchase your mask - spend possibly $50. or even more. But what can make it more interesting, personalized and unique then to create your own?
