Lindsay Roberts, A Prayer Affair

Have you ever felt like you did not understand how to pray? Jesus knew that we might not know how to hope ; , He gave us some rules for developing a prayer relationship with the heavenly Father so we can get our prayers answered.

Jesus related, When thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are : for they love to wish standing in the syna-gogues and in the corners of the streets, that they might be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. ( Matthew 6:5 )

Perhaps youve seen the kind of person Jesus was talking about. You know, people who ensure everybody sees them praying in church, but when they are going home they live like the demon. Its all a show. They shouldnt be sur-prised when their prayers arent an-swered.

In the following verse, Jesus tells us to get into an environment of prayer : But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy dad which is in secret ; and thy pa which seeth in secret shall reward thee overtly ( v. 6 ).

Now Jesus doesnt mean youve got to go into your closet, push your shoes and clothes aside, and sit there and pray. Hes pronouncing to get alone with God in some quiet place, if only in your thoughts, and start to pray in earnest, in sincerity, out of your heart.

Being alone with the daddy, with no other eyes on you but His, gives you the liberty to be open and totally honest with Him. It will help you be-gin to develop a private, loving rela-tionship between you and God which opens the door for your prayers to be answered.
