Gluing Tips for Your Ping Pong Rubber
The rubber in your ping pong paddle needs to be renewed every now and then. The rubber gets worn out after playing with it for a few games and also because of other contributing factors, such as moisture, sunlight, and dust, you need to remember to change it now and then as it will significantly lower the quality of your performance when playing ping pong.
To glue new rubber on your ping pong paddle, you first need to get ITTF approved speed glue and sheets of new rubber that also has softer sponge specifically designed for speed gluing.
Now, what you need to do is put up new sheets. You need to remember that you need to prime the sheets and coat them with extra glue. By doing this, you will be able to help in building up the glue base which will be more effective. It is recommended that you wait 6 to 8 hours after priming the sponge.
After priming the sponge, pour a coin sized amount of speed glue on the center and brush the glue evenly throughout the sponge. Let the glue dry.
You should also apply a small amount on the blade and brush it evenly all over the blade and you also need to let it dry.
Next, you need to add a last thin layer of glue on the sponge and attach the sponge to the blade. To evenly glue it, use a rolling pin to push down the rubber to the blade. This will ensure that no air bubbles will develop.
After attaching the sponge, you need to repeat the mentioned steps to the rubber.
If there is any excess rubber hanging off the edges, you can easily cut it off with a pair of scissors or a sharp knife.
To ensure that the rubber is evenly pressed onto the sponge, you will want to use a racket press or you can also try putting a few stacks of books on the freshly glued rubber.
After about 15 minutes of this, you will be able play with your new rubber.
These are the things that you need to know about gluing rubber on your paddle. By following these few easy steps, you can be sure that you will never experience getting air bubbles on your rubber.
So, if your ping pong paddle rubber has worn out or develops air bubbles, you might want to glue new rubber in it. With new rubber, you will be able to see that you can maintain the quality of your game.
