Graying is a natural part of aging that is genetically determined. It cant be reversed with herbal remedies or nutritional supplements. According to WebMD, research pinpoints depletion of pigment-producing cells in the follicles, and hairs natural hydrogen peroxide, as the main culprits. Researchers continue to search for solutions that prevent internal causes for graying. For now, you can cover up the gray hair on your beard with anti-gray dyes. This is the best way to stop gray hair from aging you any more than it needs to.
Cause of Grey Hair: -
Our hair is initially white; it is colored by pigmentation generated in the hair follicles called melanocytes. The shade of hair is determined by the amount of melanin present in the hair follicles. The more melanin present the darker the hair will be.
Grey hair is attributed to the decrease of melanocytes in the hair follicles. As we age the melanocytes lose the ability to make pigment which colors our hair and the color is absent from new hair. Many factors such as heredity, poor diet, poor health and stress can affect the production of melanocytes in our hair follicles. These conditions can lead to grey hair.
How to Prevent Grey Hair: -
Stop smoking - Smoking has been scientifically proven to cause premature aging of the entire body, and that includes getting grey hair. If you want to prevent grey hair and you smoke, quitting should be the first, most important step.
Take vitamin B regularly. This is shown to naturally prevent graying hair, and in fact is good for your overall health as well.
Increase your intake of iron-rich foods, such as seafood, poultry, lean red meat, nuts and beans, eggs and fortified cereal, or take an iron supplement to reduce grey hair by treating the dietary causes of anemia.
Relax - It has been found that stress can be linked to premature grey hair. Stress has an effect on the body like smoking, causing it to age faster. Search for ways to calm your emotions - like regular exercise or meditation - and you will also prevent grey hair.
Examine your diet - Grey hair begins to appear due to a breakdown in protein synthesis. In particular, this is caused by a copper insufficiency. Luckily, there are many ways to get more of this mineral:
• Take a multi-vitamin. Most of them contain copper.
• Eat foods that contain copper. I have included a link at the end of this article for copper-containing foods. Some common ones include turnip greens, lima beans, yams, spinach, and most meats.
• Eat fruits and nuts, particularly - blackberries, pineapples, pomegranates, almonds, and pumpkin seeds.
Evaluate your nutrition and determine if you are suffering from a deficiency in vitamin B-12 and other B vitamins, which can contribute to prematurely greying hair.
